Course Description
Community Helpers are everywhere! Throughout our communities — at home, at school, at the library or the store — we meet hard-working men and women who make our lives easier every day. People who live an work in our community and ensure that the community stays healthy, safe and happy are community helpers. Some of the community helpers are doctors, firemen, teachers, policemen, nurses, farmers etc., the list is exhaustive. As parents we always teach our children to be wary of strangers, but at the same time we have to ensure they understand that in case of any emergency stranger in a uniform is there to help them. By getting to know our Community Helpers, children get inspired by those who work to make our world a better place to live. Community helpers are part of children’s everyday lives. When children interact with community helpers, they communicate and socialize. They learn new vocabulary, ask and answer questions, and gain knowledge about the world around them. One group of people that children find fascinating is the community helpers that you see throughout your neighborhood. Preschoolers are practically primed to notice these people and have lots of questions about them. This helps you educate children while building a sense of community around them. They will grow into that sense of community before you know it. Community helpers take care of us and play an important role in our society. So, we have to understand the vital importance of teaching children about their role in our lives and the critical jobs they hold in our communities.
